Frequently Asked Questions
Does my child need to see a speech pathologist?
Your child might need to see a speech pathologist if they have trouble with communication. This might include problems being understood by other people as well as problems in understanding what people say. It might also include stuttering as well as difficulties with reading, spelling and writing. Your child might also be delayed in starting to speak and develop their early language skills or they may have difficulties in engaging with others effectively in a social environment.

Do I need a referral to see a speech pathologist?
No, you do not need a formal referral to see a speech pathologist at our clinic. Clients can be self-referred, or be referred by a parent, paediatrician, GP, specialist, or other allied health care professional. If you have NDIS funding for speech pathology services, you do not need a formal referral to visit our clinic (NDIS clients must be self-managed or third party managed only).

Is there a waiting list for services?
Yes, there is currently a waiting list for services. Formal assessments will be prioritised and completed within 4-6 weeks. The length of time that a child is on the waiting list depends on many factors. This includes the clinician's availability, the family's flexibility with appointment times and whether the therapist is a good fit for the child/family.

What can I expect at my initial appointment?
The initial appointment is all about the clinician getting to know your child's needs through obtaining a case history. It also involves the therapist establishing rapport with your child through play and depending on time completing an informal screen of their speech sounds/language skills.

Can I get a rebate?
You may receive a rebate from your private health service if you have extras cover for speech pathology services.
You may also be eligible for Medicare rebates through the 'Chronic Disease Management Plan' Program. If eligible you may receive a partial rebate for up to 5 sessions per year.
For NDIS self- managed clients, fees are due on the day of service and can immediately be claimed back through your NDIS portal. For NDIS plan managed clients, we will send your invoices directly to your nominated plan manager service.
